Fri, November 5, 2004 - 12:30 AMIn SF, there was a nice turnout of a couple hundred folks, drummers and this amazing gong group. It really fit the mood. My favorite sight was a 5 year old girl in a pretty white satin dress, hat decorated with marigolds and painted death face. Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera. After the parade everyone goes to a local park to look at altars. The most moving one in my opinion was a crude cut and paste on posterboard dedicated to murdered Mexican women who work in the maquiladoras in Juarez. Tucson event
Tue, November 9, 2004 - 12:45 AMThe Tucson All Souls' Procession was wonderful as usual...we got dressed up and walked in the parade...went with my brother and my son and met up with a bunch of Burner friends. So many cool costumes, puppets, and floats! The Tucson event is huge...involves thousands of participants and performers. The parade ends up at a big stage in a big parking lot where they have fire and dance performances...this year they had dancers on a pole hoisted by a crane - amazing! Then everyone heads over to the afterparty with more performances from fire performers, bellydancers and musicians.
My pics will take awhile to go up, I just had a disposable camera.

Tue, November 9, 2004 - 2:32 AMI didn't make it to any actual events for Dia de los Muertos this year. (Sad to say I never have, but mostly because I am just learning more about it.)
I did however go to a Halloween party where the theme was "Dia de los Muertos vs. Goth". So I've got some cool pics. from that. Now I just have to get them scanned in... -

Tue, November 9, 2004 - 3:43 AMThat's too bad, the last four weekends for me have been all Halloween and DDLM events.
The 15th there was a benefit in Tucson for the parade. Then the 22nd I hosted a benefit/Halloween party at my place in Phoenix for the parade (it takes them some $15,000 to put it on every year!) with 3 fire acts, 2 bellydancing acts, 2 bands and a magic act! Then last weekend I had a kid's Halloween party on Friday, went to 3 Halloween parties Saturday night, and then Halloween had the house done up for the TOTs and then went to some haunted houses.
Then of course this weekend was the parade. Woooh...I'm exhausted LOL! But it's all been great, can't wait for next year! (okay, maybe I could use a break <g>).
I for sure can't wait to see your DDLM vs. Goth pics though! I love your Crow costume (and your dog's too!) -

hee hee. that's mine. :) I've said it like 3 times, but I'm still bummed that I ran out of disk space and missed pics of the fire performance and the bands and crowd at the after party.
I had a mutha fawkin amazing time!! unbelievable. I reallly wish the Tucson parade hadn't been on a Sunday so I could've stayed longer.

Thu, December 2, 2004 - 9:11 AMI'm new to this tribe... but we have a Dia des los Muertos party every year... all atendees must dress as something scary or something Mexican, no fairy princesses, no Raggedy Andys. This was my costume ( I know not too scary ) my brother in law came as a pinata! Very cute,very clever! -
