From what I have researched this song is considered the national type song for DOTD, you can recheck the lyrics translated.

My troupe is performing at a large Day of the Dead festival in our town. Its the 6th annual festival, and last year, there were over 2000 people there (crazy!). Anyway, there has been some controversy about our group performing. Some event planners are concerned that we are not "Mexican" enough, while others don't care, and want to focus on the "celebration" aspect of Day of the Dead.

I am sensitive to the needs of those who want to make this event an authentic experience. I tried to comfort one organizer by saying that bellydance is actually quite popular in Mexico. That lightened her mood a bit. I assured her I would do research and give her the best "Mexican" inspired performance we could, while still retaining our own style. Lots of this can be done with costuming choices. But I would love some feedback from someone who understands. What does bellydance have to do with Mexico? How can we enhance special holidays like dia dos Muertos with the dance? Are there any authentic elements you can recommend for us to include in our performance?

To give you and idea of what we are working with, our style is structured-improvization. We are somewhat like ATS, but with a broader vocabulary of movements. We dance primarily in a group, with alternating duets and solos, and we perform to live percussion.

Again, I know this is kind of a weird request, but ANY advice you have to offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S. Day of the Day is probably my FAVORITE day of the year. This is really important to me!
