Hey all,
If you saw the recent tribe icon switch from a lovely skeleton image to a ? , you may wonder why many images were suddenly removed from the gallery. It seems that the artist was offended when I removed a listing misplaced as a topic of discussion, after I went so far as to notify him via PM that it should be resubmitted as a listing.
Sad as this is, I do my best to keep my tribes clean and usable.
If you have found other tribes to be flooded by advertising and OT threads bothersome, you might be grateful for my efforts in keeping these boards directed and purposeful... Or you might not even notice.

Re: The sad removal of art through misunderstanding...
Mon, May 16, 2005 - 3:19 AMI appreciate it. I really do hate when someone starts a thread, when they should have made a listing. (Or, worse yet, sends a notice out to everyone, when it should have been either a listing or thread post.)
Thank you. :)
It's a shame some people are so easily upset. (Or just don't understand how to follow the rules.) *sigh*
Oh, well. -

Thu, July 14, 2005 - 5:56 AMHere we are again!
Remy lists his advertisement as a posting...
I play moderator, one I do bother to do, and remove the posting after sending a brief message explaining why. I get a reply, which I responded to. (imagine that! Moderator responsiveness? wow) Our PM have been posted in the listing below.
With the exception of the ad, here's the posting (since it appears to have not been listed in the very tribe it was written about!)

Remy's listing:
I know this isn't such a big issue but I'd like to hear from the real community. I say, it was posted, just leave it posted. The post is not insulting, demeaning, offensive, or any other negative adjective you can think of.
Thank you in advance for all your comments and opinions. I know I'll hear plenty.
I posted the following in Dia de los Muertos tribe:

I'm posting this for a friend who forwarded me this information. Anyone willing to help should contact the people below. Thanks peeps.

I received the following message from the Dia de los Muertos tribe's Moderator:

I replied to the message, the following:

I understand. ummm, but I would understand it more if you would have constant posting from the community. Besides, I did post this for the community, the Latin community, mainly Mexican community. I thought to put this listing as a post since the posts are the first to be seen, especially since there's hardly any activity in the tribe as of late. You're basically correcting and above all enforcing a petty technicality which I believe has no place in a community setting.
All in all, you are the moderator and must moderate. Thanks for your moderate hospitality.

O.K. that's the end of my rant. I apologize but I just wanted to be heard. And I know I'm going to be hearing alot of people pretty soon myself.
Thanks.

Responding to his reply I wrote:
Hi Remy,
Please understand my position as moderator...
Would you rather see a tribe with many postings without replies or one that bounces to life during a certain time of year?
Personally, when I see a tribe full of posts with 0 replies, it does less to encourage me to post than one without posts for a long duration.
I have heard a main complaint from former users that the topicality of posts and listings not having a direct connection to the topic as a main reason for not using the network. In such, I do my best to keep my tribes clear of clutter and on topic.
In such I aim to serve my copmmunity by presenting topics that elicit responses from the community, as we are already innundated by the push mentality of mass advertisement in other areas of life.
I hope that you do see that I am playing the role of moderator, and oft neglected responsiblity by those who take it upon themselves. My hope is that by communicating why I delete discussion posts with those who misplace announcements into discussion areas that I will offend less people. I wish to be neither nazi nor complacent about my tribes...
Still not everyone understands, but I endeavor to maintain a standard for the niche communities I have gathered here on tribe.
I hope there are no hard feelings, and I wish you the best!
MT

Seeing this appear listing about my moderation immediately afterwards on my home page, I followed up with:
PS- you'd be able to have your feedback centralized by using your blog for rants.
Then I could hear the feedback as well, and you wouldn't be fielding so many personal messages in your inbox, as you state you expect.
Since he has asked the "real community" (which one?) to give feedback,
I place this before you reyes, the DdlM tribe, and ask your direct feedback rather than rely on second hand feedback from PM's to an individual who believes my choices to be "basically correcting and above all enforcing a petty technicality".
Since this is the community this relates to, What do you think? -

Re: The sad removal of art through misunderstanding...
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 6:39 AMI'm on your side, MT. I really *HATE* seeing advertisements disguised as regular thread posts. Make it a listing.
Or, start your own tribe for advertisements.
If it doesn't relate to the tribe subject, I don't want to have to read it.
Plus the fact that it is awfully presumptious to assume that most of the people in this tribe are of the Latin or Mexican "community". (I'm not.)
Thanks MT, keep up the good work.
