We have stuff on here since October. There must be some way of making it timely. Surely if we unclog the system, more new ideas and happenings will start being posted.

Since Dia de los Muertos is Nov. 2nd,
referencing last year will be timely
when the season rolls around again.

I'm happy to start up conversations
regarding the Mexican 'Day of the Dead' celebrations,
and I'm also content to let this tribe
be quiet with respect for our elders
if we have nothing useful to their memory to discuss.

Lets be mindful of the spaces we create, shall we?

I think I would agree....we don't talk much during the rest of the year, but since most, not all, but alot of my tradtional decorations are out all year long as part of my normal house decor, I guess I forget to bring up topics on the subject too.

MT I pretty much agree with you :)

I believe this is a slow growth tribe...

All of the items I brought out to decorate the Air elemental altar and the Family altar in SF came from around my house.

If you attended SF's Dia de los Muertos altar display, I halped design and build the large circular altar with the arched entries, a skeleton loaded with marigolds, and an effigy of my departed grandfathe opposite the skeleton.

Most of them survived the rain,
but my sword took a beating,
as did my Dewalt during teardown...

          poor DeWalt......hehe

This is such a family traditon for us. But, then again, we honor the dead on a pretty regular basis, and celbrate a number of other holidays "not on the regularly scheduled hallmark calendar" so to speak., hehe....ah.....it's good to have variety.

I saw Siouxsie at Ascension, and she said she was about to write the grant for the altars for this year... We still have the large circular altar we designed last year, including the arches if I'm not mistaken...
I just hope I don't have to carry my Dad this year like I did for Grandfather last year...

                Well I didn't last year
                (that post was 2004)
but I am remembering my Dad this year.

I'm in the formative stages of figuring out the project for this year,
so stay tuned for developments. If you have someone special to remember this year as well, please contact me.

I'd like to build on the idea from Grandpa, and offer the experience to the community as well to make a moving image in the procession before setting them and building altars around an effigy of your departed afterwards.
