I lived in Guatemala for a short time and they celebrate Day of the Dead a bit different. No Ofrendas, All the family goes to cemetary for a a picnic, the children fly these enormous colorful kites shaped like wheels. The thought of the Mayans is the kites fly close to heaven and invite the spirits to earth. A dish called "fiambre" is eaten on that day , a fish salad with a bunch of different ingrediants.The marigolds and candles areused.
